k.smith x is a Wisconsin-based consulting studio helping architects, builders, and homeowners nation-wide navigate the decisions that shape a home long before the final room is photographed.

Kate Smith brings together 15-plus years of experience in luxury hospitality, construction consulting, and residential interiors with a practical understanding of what it takes to move a project from vision to completion.

Today, our work increasingly lives behind the scenes.

We partner with architects and builders as a fractional resource—stepping in where additional expertise, bandwidth, client support, or a more thoughtful approach to finishes, fixtures, and furnishings can strengthen a project.

That might mean helping a client understand how a design decision affects their budget. It might mean developing finish specifications, identifying gaps before they become expensive problems, translating client wants into actionable decisions, or creating systems that make the entire process easier for everyone involved.

The goal isn't to replace the architect or builder.

It's to make their work easier to execute—and help the finished home reflect the quality of the vision that started it...

Outside of the studio, you can find Kate with a coffee, on her peloton or treadmill, and always searching for the illusive Lamino chair (iykyk).

Kate resides in Door County with her husband Scott, daughter Harper, and Newfoundland-doodle, Wallace.
